12th Fail (Twelfth Fail) is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Produced under the banner of Vinod Chopra Films and Zee Studios, it is based on the novel of the same name by Anurag Pathak.The film stars Vikrant Massey, Medha Shankar, Sanjay Bishnoi and Harish Khanna. The film was released on 27 October 2023. The film 12th fail received positive reviews from the critics.

The story of 12th Fail is Based on Anurag Pathak`s bestselling novel of the same name, 12th Fail depicts the true story of an IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma hailing from a small town in Chambal, who fearlessly embraced the idea of restarting his academic journey and reclaiming his destiny at a place where millions of students attempt for the world’s toughest competitive exam, UPSC. The film is not just a chronicle of one man’s journey but a celebration of everyone who dared to look at failures as an opportunity to #Restart.

In the course of a celebrated career spanning over four decades, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has gifted Bollywood a number of landmark films as a filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. An alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Chopra first came to public attention when his student short Murder at Monkey Hill (1976) won the National Film Award for Best Short Experimental Film. His next venture, the documentary short An Encounter with Faces (1978), established the young writer-director as a wunderkind when it got nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject that year.
Subsequently, Chopra made his feature film directorial debut with Sazaye Maut (1981), which starred Naseeruddin Shah and Radha Saluja in the lead roles. This was followed by the thriller Khamosh (1985) and the crime drama Parinda (1989), the latter of which won two National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards and has since been widely hailed as one of the most iconic films in the history of Hindi cinema. Two decades later, the director remade the film in Hollywood under the title Broken Horses (2015), but the remake failed to garner the same level of critical acclaim as the original.
In the 1990s, Chopra helmed just two films as a director, the period romance drama 1942: A Love Story (1994) and Kareeb (1998). A critical and commercial success, 1942: A Love Story was a milestone film in terms of its aesthetic appeal and technical brilliance and went on to win several Filmfare Awards that year. Towards the third decade of his career, Chopra turned his focus into production and screenwriting, and his collaborations with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani produced acclaimed blockbusters like Munna Bhai MBBS (2003), Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), 3 Idiots (2009) and PK (2014). Besides these, he also wrote and produced the musical romantic drama Parineeta (2005) and the sports drama Ferrari Ki Sawaari (2012).
The action-drama Mission Kashmir (2000) and the mystery drama Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007) are some of Chopra`s notable directorial credits since 2000. Notable production credits in recent times include the crime thriller Wazir (2016) and the biographical drama Sanju (2018). His 2020 release includes Shikara, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Vikrant Massey
Started his career in popular television shows and films, Vikrant Massey has now become one of the most sought-after actors in the digital entertainment industry. In his early days of career, he was best remembered for his work in Colors TV`s socio-drama Balika Vadhu. Harish Khanna

Harish was also seen in critically acclaimed films like Kaminey (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Trishna (2011) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). His 2019 release includes Moothon.

Early life
Priyanshu was born in 1973 in New Delhi, and then completed his B Com from Delhi University. Before entering the film industry, Priyanshu was a model who worked on several projects such as Digjam`s Print Campaign, Levi`s & Four Square, and Wills Cigarettes, to name a few. He also featured in an Udit Narayan music video. The actor has even taken acting lessons from Kishore Kapoor`s School of Acting.

The actor got married to actress Malini Sharma in 1997, but got divorced in 2001.
Movie career
Priyanshu debuted in the film industry in 2001 with the romantic drama Tum Bin, under the direction of Anubhav Sinha. He co-starred with Sandali Sinha in this movie, which was a sleeper hit at the box office. He then went on to star in Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai (2003) in a lead role opposite Sakshi Shivanand, and later played a supporting role in the Aishwarya Rai–Arjun Rampal starrer Dil Ka Rishta. He concluded the year with the period drama Pinjar, based on the Hindu-Muslim problems in India during partition. He played a significant supporting role in the movie as Trilok, the son of a Hindu woman.
In 2004, he starred as the male lead in director Deepak Shivdasani`s Julie, in which he played the role of a multi-millionaire who falls in love with a high-profile prostitute Julie (Neha Dhupia) and asks her to marry him, but is unaware of her socially unacceptable profession. Priyanshu was then seen in the 2005 Deepak Ramsay direction Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai as the male lead opposite Dia Mirza, in which he belongs to the wealthy Malhotra family and is forced upon by his parents to marry the daughter of a well-placed family.
